Northern Air Cargo will begin thrice-weekly flights between Seattle and Anchorage on October 5 using its sole Boeing 737-800, aiming to improve same-day freight access to remote Alaskan communities, reported London's FlightGlobal.
The new route will operate from Seattle Tacoma International to Ted Stevens Anchorage International, connecting directly into NAC's state-wide network. The carrier says communities such as Nome and Kotzebue can receive shipments in as little as 12 hours.
NAC highlights the service's role in delivering essentials like groceries, medical supplies and building materials to isolated areas. Freight to Utqiagvik and Bethel is expected to arrive within 18 hours.
The route also supports Alaskan seafood exporters by offering timely southbound access to Pacific Northwest markets. NAC uses a proprietary cold chain system to preserve perishable goods.
The Anchorage-based airline operates seven 737s, including -300 and -400 variants, and one widebody 767-300, according to Cirium data. Its 737-800 was previously flown by Aeromexico.
NAC entered the jet age with 727s in the early 1990s and added its first 737-300 Freighter in 2010. It previously operated Douglas DC-6s and Fairchild C-82 Packets, retiring the DC-6 in 2008.
