Hamburg and Valencia emerged as winners in the Asia-Europe trade lane following the 2025 carrier alliance reshuffle, while Antwerp and Tangier saw steep declines in vessel capacity, reported Saint Petersburg's PortNews.

According to Sea-Intelligence's Sunday Spotlight issue 731, the new service networks in effect since July 2025 have shifted market power among Europe's leading container ports.

The study measured average monthly nominal vessel capacity in TEU for May-July 2025 against the 2024 full-year baseline. The figures reflect theoretical maximum capacity, not actual cargo volumes.

Hamburg recorded the largest gain, adding about 169,000 TEU per month, driven by more frequent calls and larger vessels.

Valencia increased by over 78,000 TEU monthly, reinforcing its Mediterranean role.

Antwerp lost around 138,000 TEU, while Tangier declined by 122,000 TEU.

Rotterdam maintained its lead as Europe's top gateway port, described in the report as "in a league of its own."
