THE Port of Rotterdam Authority has expanded its Moezelweg pipeline corridor to address current and future capacity issues, reports London's Port Technology International.

Porthos' transport pipelines will be integrated into the expanded Moezelweg pipeline corridor.

The Porthos transport pipelines are part of a carbon capture and storage (CCS) project in the Port of Rotterdam. These pipelines are designed to transport CO? emissions from industrial sources to depleted gas fields under the North Sea for storage.

For the expansion, a ProRail railway line was relocated, and retaining structures were installed, followed by excavation of the railway embankment.

In the second phase, main contractor Van Halteren Infra installed two sheet piling walls.

The port also revealed that they worked closely with ProRail during the project.

Porthos is the first to use the new pipeline corridor, and it will soon install the CO2 pipeline.

Recently, the Port of Rotterdam Authority released its 2024 annual report, which highlighted an 11 per cent increase in gross investments, reaching EUR320.6 million (US$348.7 million).
