NVOCCs must learn how to survive EU's regulatory red tape

STRENGTHENING an NVOCC's compliance with the governance part of ESG (environment, social, governance) dictum, one's firm must have solid governance structures in place. These must be bolstered by anti-corruption measures as well as stakeholder engagement, to build trust, transparency and accountability if one is to operate in the European Union.
NVOCCs must first register with maritime authorities in EU member states where they intend to operate. They are often required to demonstrate financial stability, which may include providing surety bonds or other financial guarantees to cover potential liabilities.
Compliance with EU Customs regulations involves proper documentation, accurate declarations and adherence to import/export procedures.
With the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in place, NVOCCs handling customer data must ensure that robust data protection measures are in place.Adequate insurance coverage is mandatory to protect against cargo loss, damage and other liabilities.
NVOCCs must operate within the framework of EU competition laws, avoiding practices like price-fixing or market monopolisation.
