SAMSUNG Heavy Industries has announced it has delivered its first large containership of 15,000 TEU equipped with the SAVER Wind, a self-developed air resistance reduction device, reports Seoul's ChosunBiz.

Eighty per cent of the air resistance faced by the containership is attributed to the container boxes, and high waves from inclement weather.

The SAVER Wind(C) features an arch-shaped design that effectively disperses airflow in front and on the sides of the vessel, potentially improving fuel efficiency up to six per cent.

Samsung Heavy Industries has signed contracts to install the SAVER Wind(C) on 41 containerships to date. While it has been additionally installed on existing container ships in 2022, this is the first time it has been applied to newbuilds.
