Trade groups press for more carrier digitisation

NEARLY three dozen trade groups are urging major shipping lines to accelerate the adoption of digital standards and system interoperability to benefit shippers, forwarders, and customs brokers, reports New York's Journal of Commerce.
This renewed appeal comes in the form of a letter sent to carrier members of the Digital Container Shipping Association (DCSA), nearly a year after many of the same organisations first called for progress on implementing DCSA's standards.
The association released its latest booking and electronic bill of lading standards, providing blueprints to help shipping lines create a more uniform user experience for customers.
DCSA had previously published a commercial schedules standard, which the trade groups praised in a public letter this week.
"Implementing these standards ... demonstrates your commitment to customer needs, adherence to realistic timelines, and builds trust in your ability to deliver," the letter said.
"We urge you to lead your organisation and collaborate with fellow DCSA members to deliver greater benefits from digital standards and interoperability to your customers in 2025."
