THE Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) highlighted significant growth and ambitious expansion plans at its recent State of the Port event in Savannah, reports Ventura, California's gCaptain.
In 2024, the Port of Savannah handled 5.6 million TEU, an increase of 618,000 TEU (12.5 per cent) from 2023, coming close to its record of 5.9 million TEU set in 2022.
GPA president and CEO Griff Lynch stated that Savannah is now the fastest-growing container gateway on the US East and Gulf coasts.
Mr Lynch emphasized the port's resilience in overcoming global challenges, including disruptions at the Suez Canal and prolonged labour negotiations between the International Longshoremen's Association and the US Maritime Alliance.
This ultimately resulted in a new six-year contract.
"Even in a challenging year, we still found a way to grow 12.5 per cent, and connectivity is key," said Mr Lynch.
