LUKA Koper in Slovenia's Port of Koper has ordered four Konecranes electric rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes to replace old equipment in its container yard.
The order was booked in the third quarter of 2024, with hand-over scheduled for the first quarter of 2025 at the latest, writes Greece's Container News.
Koper also has plans to construct a new quayside and container yard with additional storage space.
The Konecranes electric RTGs on order are expected to enhance the fleet of 28 Konecranes RTGs, of which 15 are fully electric, driven by cable reel systems. Luka Koper also operates four Konecranes rail-mounted gantry (RMG) cranes.
Edvin Boskin, technical manager of the container terminal, said: "Konecranes RTGs give us the high peak performance we need, and the cranes are reliable and easy to maintain. We have a long-term electrification strategy, and so does Konecranes, which makes this order a natural next step in the long-term cooperation between the two companies."
The new Konecranes equipment will be powered by cable reel systems connected to the local grid, like the electric Konecranes RTGs that Koper already operates. They will also have auxiliary batteries and the Truck Lift Prevention smart feature.
