PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr has called on former President Rodrigo Duterte to clarify the details of any pact or agreement he allegedly made with China and to disclose what compromises were made as part of that arrangement, reports Manila's Philippines Inquirer.

Speaking during a briefing with the Philippine media delegation, Mr Marcos addressed questions regarding the so-called Duterte-China gentleman's agreement, which Mr Duterte himself referred to as a "secret deal" due to its secretive nature and perceived effort to conceal it from the public.

Mr Marcos emphasized the importance of transparency, stating that Mr Duterte and his administration officials should provide explanations to shed light on the situation.

He suggested that clarifying these matters could help to understand why Chinese friends have expressed dissatisfaction with the Philippines' actions in the West Philippine Sea.

"It's clear to me, something was hidden, they had a deal that they hid from the people. Number one," said Marcos.

"Now we need to know, what did you agree to? What did you compromise? Ano 'yong pinamigay ninyo, bakit nagagalit ang kaibigan natin sa China na hindi kami sumusunod (What did you give, why is our friend in China angry that we are not obeying)?" Marcos asked.

Mr Marcos also wondered why Mr Duterte would allow deals to be done without proper documentation.
