MAERSK and the Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) topped schedule reliability among container lines in February according to analysts Sea Intelligence, reports the UK's Seatrade Maritime News.

With the easing of supply chain congestion container line schedule reliability is seeing dramatic improvements across the board.

SeaIntel's Global Liner Performance Report showed a 7.7 per cent increase in schedule reliability between January and February this year to reach 60.2 per cent. Year-on-year schedule reliability was up 26 per cent on the same month in 2022. The report covers over 60 lines on 34 different trades worldwide.

Of the top 14 carriers the most reliable were Maersk and MSC with 64.9 per cent and 64.4 per cent schedule reliability respectively.

Hamburg Sud, a brand that is set to disappear and become a part of Maersk, was the only other carrier to manage schedule reliability of over 60 per cent.

The remaining 11 top 14 carriers all had schedule reliability in the 50 - 60 per cent range, with the least reliable being Zim at 52 per cent.

"On a year-on-year level, all carriers recorded double-digit improvements in schedule reliability in February 2023, with Wan Hai recording the largest improvement of 36.2 percentage points," said SeaIntel CEO Alan Murphy.
