EIMSKIP, an Icelandic carrier, has launched a short sea weekly feeder service between Halifax, Nova Scotia and Portland, Maine.
The carrier is adding a third vessel which offers calls at Canadian ports and Portland, as well as network connections to ports to southern Europe, Russia and the Baltics.
The service transports dry and reefer containers, project cargo, break bulk and oversized cargo.
Said Eimskip Canada manager Jeff Simms: "We are seeing increased volumes through operations at Portland, Maine, as well as Halifax and Newfoundland."
Halterm International Container Terminal managing director Kim Holtermand said: "Earlier this year Halterm welcomed the first 10,000-TEU vessel. These vessels need a strong feeder and intermodal network and Halterm is proud to partner Eimskip in making one such opportunity available."
