Schedule reliability upturn in October, led by HMM, Hamburg Sud

SCHEDULE reliability in October saw a significant improvement as 13 of the 18 carriers posted an increase in on-time performance, reports Denmark's SeaIntel Maritime Analysis.
Korea Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) was the most reliable with an on-time performance of 82.9 per cent, followed by Hamburg Sud with 81.5 per cent.
Only two more carriers, MSC and Maersk Line recorded schedule reliability of over 80 per cent, with 80.5 per cent and 80.3 per cent, respectively.
Global schedule reliability, which has been decreasing for the past three months, improved by 2.3 percentage points over September to reach 74.8 per cent in October.
This improvement however, was not enough for a positive year-on-year development, which was 9.7 per cent below that of the 84.5 per cent post last year. "It is worth noting that we have not seen a year-on-year improvement in schedule reliability at all this year," said SeaIntel. "The average delay for late vessel arrivals deteriorated from 3.8 days in September to 4.02 days in October. This is the highest that the delays for late vessel arrivals have been since May 2015," said the report.
Year on year, the increase in the delays was even greater at 0.80 days, compared to 3.22 days recorded in October last year.
On-time performance on the east-west trades has seen a third consecutive month-to-month decease, this time of two per cent, reaching 75.4 per cent.
2M carriers were the most reliable alliance with on-time performance of 80.6 per cent, followed by Ocean Alliance with 78.1 per cent, and THE Alliance with 66.5 per cent.
