SHIPPING executives and maritime bureaucrats will meet November 6 in Glasgow at a cross-industry decarbonisation conference, reports Hellenic Shipping News Worldwide.

The COP 26 Shaping the Future of Shipping event will bring together leaders from the shipping, energy, climate sectors, and international ministers to promote state decarbonisation goals.

Delegates will include United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) executive secretary Patricia Espinosa, and International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) director Francesco La Camera.

Ministers from Belgium, Cyprus, Chile, Greece, Panama, and Kenya are also confirmed to attend the conference.

The event will inform the UNFCCC climate conference. Delegates will also discuss ways to accelerate research and development for shipping and a proposed carbon tax.

Discussions will focus on the challenges and commitments for decarbonisation; R&D, market-based measures, and global policy frameworks; the reduction of political and financial risk; ensuring a just transition.
