Milaha starts Sri Lanka-Bangladesh feeder to tap garment demand

QATAR's Milaha shipping conglomerate is to commence a feeder service between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, targeting the garment trade.
Colombo and Chittagong will be the seventh and eighth new ports of call for the company this year. The new calls are part of a service network expansion that has been ongoing since the beginning of 2017, Milaha said.
The new BCX service will be operated by two 1,200-TEU vessels on a port rotation of Colombo-Chittagong Colombo in five-day voyages, reported American Shipper.
"We have seen a great response to the direct and fast services that we launched between Qatar and some key South Asian markets earlier this year and this has encouraged us to continue our strategic expansion into new markets," Milaha CEO Abdulrahman Essa Al-Mannai was quoted as saying.
"We believe the BCX service will strongly enhance connectivity to one of the fastest-growing markets in South Asia."
Milaha currently calls at two ports in Oman (Sohar and Salalah), three ports in India (Mumbai-Nhava Sheva, Mundra and Kandla), Karachi and Kuwait-Shuwaikh.
