Brisbane container trade in March flat on previous month

CONTAINER volume through the Port of Brisbane in the first quarter was flat, though volumes increased eight per cent in March year on year.
According to the latest available trade figures, the Port of Brisbane saw 99,533 TEU in container throughput in March - 128 TEU less than April's volume, reported Daily Cargo News, formerly Lloyd's List Australia.
Exports and imports were roughly equal this past March, with exports totalling 49,467 TEU. As usual, the Port of Brisbane's biggest export were empties that came in at 29,314 TEU that month.
Laden export boxes, at 9,618 TEU. carried mostly timber (2812 TEU) and agricultural seeds (2615 TEU).
Turning now to imports, we see Brisbane's incoming containers totalled 49,199 TEU for March 2018.
The largest single category of laden imports were chiefly building materials coming in at 4,089 TEU. This was followed by freight all kinds at 6,128 TEU, and then empties at 5,072 TEU.
The motor vehicle trade saw an eight per cent increase over the period to 26,792 units in March of this year.
