FRANKFURT International Airport's (FRA) cargo throughput rose by just 0.7 per cent year on year in October, reaching 192,263 tonnes. Including mail, the total increased by 0.6 per cent to 195,230 tonnes.
In November Frankfurt airport gained a new freighter connection with Casablanca when Royal Air Maroc launched twice-weekly Boeing 737 freighter services. The flights will be upgraded to a B767F in early 2018. The Moroccan airline plans to add an extra two freighters at Frankfurt over the next couple of years, Fraport said, reported London's Air Cargo News.
Fraport senior vice president cargo Felix Kreutel was quoted as saying: "Royal Air Maroc's extensive network of routes to Africa and South America opens up new and interesting connections to these markets for our customers.
"The South American market is currently experiencing above-average growth, after a period of prolonged recession," he added.
As for Fraport's other fully consolidated airports, cargo volumes at the Ljubljana airport in Slovenia increased by 55.6 per cent year on year in October to 1,449 tonnes, while volumes at Bulgaria's Varna airports rose by 85.1 per cent to 20 tonnes, reported New York's Air Cargo World.
Burgas Airport cargo volume was up 11.3 per cent to 1,414 tonnes, while Peru's Lima Airport recorded a 0.8 per cent year-on-year increase to 29,515 tonnes in October.
At Fraport's equity-consolidated airports, Hanover Airport in Germany reported a 20.7 per cent drop in cargo volume at 1,075 tonnes, and cargo volume at China's Xi'an Airport was up 5.8 per cent to 21,728 tonnes for the month.
