PARIS-BASED logistics park developer Virtuo has signed an agreement with the Marseille Fos port authority to build a multi-user facility of almost 70,000 square metres at Distriport, near Marseille's Fos container terminals.

The port authority said the choice of Fos underlined the leading French port's growing attraction as the southern gateway for Europe, reports the American Journal of Transportation.

Due to open in the third quarter of 2019, the project will feature two latest generation Class A warehouses totalling 45,000 square metres.

Virtuo has three other logistics developments underway in France and was looking for a platform in the south as part of a network covering the Lille, Paris, Lyon and the Marseille range.

Distriport is the larger of two logistics zones at Fos, with 360,000 square metres of warehousing currently operational out of a total building capacity of 575,000 square metres.

Meanwhile occupancy at the 364,000 square metres capacity La Feuillane zone currently represents 149,000 square metres of available warehouse space.
