THE Canadian National Railway and the Norfolk Southern Railway have started a new service that cuts transits by one to two days between Western Canada and the eastern US.
The service allows freight to bypass Chicago by using the more efficient existing CN and Norfolk Southern tracks.
Traffic interchanges at Norfolk Southern's major rail yard in Elkhart, Indiana, avoids Chicago congestion.
Said Norfolk Southern chairman, president and CEO Jim Squires: "Together, we have re-engineered our Chicago connections to provide shippers with a superior service shipping option."
Said CN president and CEO Luc Jobin: "Through collaboration, We bring efficiencies to the supply chain as we deliver higher and more reliable service to customers."
