SINGAPORE-headquartered PSA International handled a total of 74.24 million TEU across its global portfolio of terminals in 2017, representing an increase of 9.8 per cent year on year.

The majority of box traffic was generated by its international business with volumes up 10.4 per cent to 40.89 million TEU. Its flagship Singapore terminals achieved nine per cent growth after handling 33.35 million TEU, reported Seatrade Maritime News, Colchester, UK.

While in its homebase of Singapore PSA has been able to position itself to benefit from consolidation and shifting shipping alliances, CEO Tan Chong Meng noted "disruption" had become the norm for the majority of industries.

PSA is focused on changing its operations to meet the future market challenges that come from disruption.

"Amid the many business and technological forces and IT security threats buffeting us, we remain unwaveringly committed to our core focus of adapting to and pre-empting the changing needs of our shipping line customers.

"In addition, we are also preparing for a future where logistics and supply chain needs are transformed by new technology, trade, manufacturing and e-commerce dynamics," he said.
